The story sounded cool, not hip hoppin’ out-of-this-world, but cool. The story starts in detention no less, so it already catches your attention. It was about 20% through the story I saw it was entertaining, but nothing real special yet. However, once I got going? That changed.

This book really threw me for a loop still. I have never had the urge to re-read a book soon after reading it. I did anyhow. Well, the really good parts. It’s not so much the storyline, but the way the author writes, really, in the end. It’s tough to explain, so bear with me. It’s like talking to someone you know really well, like your best friend. It’s written in first person, but that’s not so rare. It’s not the I’s, and it’s more than being in the characters head. The story catches the slightest discrepancy that runs through our MC’s head. Instead of saying something like ‘The band member’s name was Pond Scum  it got into things like ‘The band member’s name-and get this-is Pond Scum.’ Her thoughts interrupted themselves.

Her thoughts interrupted themselves! It wasn’t overdone, it was a fluid balance, and once I got used to the style, I didn’t want to let go.

I’ve never read a book like this, and I’m afraid I am going to have to go stalk become a fan of Rusty Fischer. His style of writing has hooked me, and I have got to see what else he has. Starting with the downloads on his sites.:) (MINE!!)

The editing is not bad, and the story itself is really good. It’s not going to take you to mystical lands, make you study up on demonology, and it really doesn’t break any new ground that I’ve seen. I just really like the way the author writes.

You’ll get a close and personal feel to Becca as well. The only complaint I really have is I wish the secondary character got some spotlight sooner. We’re introduced to Darren Dark at the beginning and then he disappears until what my Kindle says is almost 50%. At about the 48% mark, the story starts to really zoom.

In fact, the story is okay until you hit that middle section, then it turns into a solid five. Lengthwise, you can finish Rebecca Bloom and the Drumsticks of Doom in about a day or two, although don’t be surprised if you have to go back and reread more. The romance is there, although mostly in Rebecca’s head, and it’s hinted that Darren might have something too, but if you’re looking for romance where it’s kissy-kissy, this probably isn’t for you. In the end, I feel more like they ended up as friends, but will probably take it further, after the book ends.

Considering I am rereading good parts again, then I already know I’ll end up reading it again and again, so it gets a solid five!

-Like romance that isn’t thick or heavy, and mainly from inside the characters, not shown so much outside.

-Like books with no bad foul language.

-Like books that aren’t in a series

-Like books that aren’t gigantic. It can be finished in 1 or 2 days.
